David BainFormer consultant surgeon Windsor group of hospitals (b 1915; q St Mary's 1940; FRCS) d 14 May 1997. He was appointed consultant in 1954, and because he had had experience at the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, his remit included the paediatric surgery for the district. He developed an extensive practice, which included Windsor Castle and Eton College. Five years' service in the Royal Navy gave him enormous pleasure, and he served in theatres of war from the north Atlantic to the Pacific.

He was devoted to the memory of Lord Nelson and made a large collection of Nelsonian memorabilia. His other interests included, walking his dog(s), gardening and classic cars. He leaves a wife, Julia; four children; and eight grandchildren. [R J Luck BMJ 1997]

Married: Julia Warrack in 1954, three sons and one daughter none has followed in father's footsteps
Died: Windsor. May 14th, 1997
